Leo's beautiful boys.....

Leoladyofleisure · 01/03/2007 13:27

....were born at 37 weeks on 20th February!
Toby was born at 00:42 weighing 2660g, 46cm and Leo was born at 00:43 weighng 2480g, 45cm!

(the name Leo was suggested by DH, fit perfectly and has no relation to my MN name, just coincidence!)

... and for those of you that want to know the details....

The last few weeks of the pregnancy started to get really tough, I was feeling house bound as I couldn't walk more than about 100m without crippling ligament pain, Toby had been engaged since about 33 weeks, both babies had been head down in a good birth position for weeks and i had been having on and off contractions but nothing seemed to be happening....you know the feeling when you think the pregnancy is never going to end!
Monday night I was laying in bed with ds1 reading him his bed time story and felt a big pop inside followed by a lot of pain. DS gave me a kiss to make the pain in my belly better , dh got me a towel and when I stood up a flood poured out.

We (me calmly, dh panicking) finished packing hospital bags and ds's bag to go and stay with dh's sister. Contractions were coming nicely.
We got to the hospital, handed ds1 over to dh's sister and were taken for an ultrasound. The doctor couldn't find Leo's head where we expected it to be and to everyone's surprise, my huge shock it seemed that he had found enough room to turn breech in the past 2 days without me realising it ! I was so shocked and terrified of having a cs that I shook uncontrollably from this point on all the way through until the babies were born, comfortably nestled up with me and feeding.
Following this we were moved to a delivery room to monitor the babies heart beats, they couldn't find them (I was shaking too much), I panicked, they got the ultrasound to find them. Babies were doing great. I was prepped for surgery, the anaethetist (sp?) came to do her bit, unfortunately because my belly was so big I couldn't curl up enough for her to get the needle in so we had to go through the whole thing again.
After baby was born the midwife brought them to me to see, kiss and smell before they were taken for checking, the two moments were magical.

I spent a week in hospital which was really bad because I missed ds1 so much, but was really great as it gave me time to really concentrate on Toby and Leo and recover myself. I had fantastic help with breastfeeding and so far so good... both boys are being fully BF!

Lots and lots of love and keep us posted on their and your progress!!

Jaysecond · 01/03/2007 13:40

Leo!!! Huge congratualtions and all my love on the arrival of Leo and Toby, a wonderful time for you all right now! Sorry you were in hospital for so long, but like you said it gave you time to get to know them a wee bit! Keep in touch with us all, on the thread or postnataly, and when you get chance pics would be great!!

Congrats again!! xx

Leoladyofleisure · 01/03/2007 13:41

I'll see what i can do, we haven't yet got any photos that do them justice. They really are so beautiful!

When I was pregnant I really worried how i would cope, ds1 is really demanding and was from day one and when people said that all babies are different I didn't believe them and didn't know what they meant but now I understand. These two wake up calmly, not screaming and show they are hungry in ways other than screaming! Of course they also love mummy cuddles
I expected to feel totally overwhelmed (actually i do, but in a very positive, way), but having 2 babies seems like the most normal thing that could happen and I am really enjoying them so much and I am worryingly calm and happy :O!

divastropwantstodrop · 01/03/2007 13:46

congratulations leo

so glad everything went well, you sound so happy.

Leoladyofleisure · 01/03/2007 13:46

Niklas seems to be OK with them although we are keeping them out of his way a bit, he says their names over and over again and had to say goodbye to them this morning when he went to nursery. Otherwise he is has been a bit unsettled (although it could just be him playing dh up, dh doesn't always handle him in the best way !) I think he was away from home for too long and away from me for too long.

Kelly1978 · 01/03/2007 13:47

5lb8 and 5lb7 by my calculations, frumpy, not far off!

Leoladyofleisure · 01/03/2007 13:50

FG - 5lb 8oz and 5lb 5oz, still they seem so tiny, they have old man's saggy bums, but getting a bit of meat on their cheeks now!

OP posts:
Leoladyofleisure · 01/03/2007 13:51

FG - everyone thought they were girls (except me )! Statistically they should have been, dh's parents have 12 grandchildren now 10 boys and 2 girls !

OP posts:
throckenholt · 01/03/2007 13:52

my smaller DT (3lb 13oz) had no bum at all - it took him weeks to grow cheeks .

Kelly1978 · 01/03/2007 13:52

Oh I remember the saggy bums, so soft too. Aww, I getting so broody now.

Leoladyofleisure · 01/03/2007 13:54

Just have to go and have a look at my sleeping angels, stroke their cheeks, smell their hair......
having babies really is incredible !
