Okay, here's the long version:
As a lot of people know, ds1's birth was, shall we say, less than optimal. So I've spent tons of time with this pg going over what went wrong, let's not have that again, shall we? and those kinds of conversations with my OB (who has been lovely, btw) From the start we said elective section is the only way to go.
So, pg was going well until my 36 week check-up. Then bp started rising precipitously. Saw OB on Monday the 20th. She did some bloods, looked OK but bp still on the rise so she asked me to come back on Wed. I decided to pack a bag Tuesday night thinking I would just leave it in the car, but if something didn't look right on Wed it would be good to be prepared. I could tell by the look on dh's face he thought I was over-reacting - I do have a history of doing that! - but he was trying his best to humor me.
Finished packing bag at 10:15 that night and laid down with a sigh of relief that at least something was prepared for the baby. (Nursery has been behind schedule for months...)
At 10:30 my water broke! Such a shock. Over 3 weeks early and it was a gusher. Sorry, but can you have tmi in a discussion about childbirth?
I go in to wake up dh who had lickily decided to turn in early that night. I guess my frantic packing had worn him out. After a call to my parents to come stay with ds1 and a talk with my OB we were on our way in. C-section was now imminent.
The surgical team were terrific! They asked me all about what went wrong before and worked hard to make things smooth and easy this time.
The only unavoidable downer was having to go on a vile magnesium drip for 24 hours b/c of my bp but I was so pleased with everything else I really didn't mind. Well, not too much anyway...
