Phoebe arrived on 1 November at 8.06 am by caesarean, after more than 2 days of latent and active labour. Not our ideal, but the midwifery and medical staff were all fantastic and in spite of it having been difficult, it has been a positive experience mainly. I started labour at home in my birth pool, which was fantastic, but things didn't really work out as Phoebe weighed a whopping 8lb 13.5 ozs and I (as everyone kept pointing out!) am rather little. Her presentation wasn't ideal and she had her head up. In the end, I was just incredibly relieved that she got through labour without distress and is the most beautiful baby imaginable.

And she really has got a red head!

Congratulations ! Sounds like a large red head, LOL.

Congratulation- I remember your home birth thread - I'm sorry the birth wasn't exactly what you wanted - but at least you tried! Two days of labour followed by a C section - I bet you're exhausted. Well done and enjoy babyredhead!

fantastic, well done. a great size, sounds like an ordeal. i love the name, spent ages campaigning for it with dh but he won and got his choice. does she really have red hair or just red head? i have red hair and was really hoping lo would carry on the tradition but so far looks mousy brown.

carol3 · 05/11/2006 07:58

congratulation from a fellow redhead

Swizzler · 05/11/2006 09:06

Thanks everyone. I'm still pretty wiped out, but DH and my parents have been fantastic.

BabyRedhead is lovely but very much a night owl at the moment.

She really has red hair not just a red head, by the way!

The birth wasn't what I had hoped for, as I said and in the end, short of forceps, I had a pretty high level of intervention: breaking my waters, epidural, hormone drip, attempted ventouse and finally the section. But I wasn't railroaded - or didn't feel so - and after so long I had reached the end of my resources.

What is sad is that the few hours I spent at home labouring in the pool with a midwife there were incredibly positive and showed me what a wonderful experience it might be. Yes, I was in pain, but dealing with it and I felt as though the baby and I were in this together and really going for it!

Still, it was not to be and the outcome is good, so no point fretting about it now.

Thanks everyone for your congratulations - am hobbling off downstairs now for breakfast.

Congratulations!! Glad you had a positive experience even if it wasn't the one you'd hoped for, but the best result in the end! XX

taffy101 · 06/11/2006 21:39

Congratulations!
Shame it was not the experience you hoped for but they've got to get out somehow i guess. I think if mine was that size i'd like a zip fitted thank you.
I love her name too - Phoebe was on my shortlist but not DH's but I had a boy anyway.
Enjoy your lo x
