Hi everyone. Delighted to announce the arrival into the world of Toby Peter, on 8th August at 2.51pm, weighing 8 pounds 8.
As everyone on my antenatal thread knows only too well from my bitching and moaning, Toby was 2 weeks late so i went into hospital at 8am to be induced. I was already slightly dilated so they sent me to the Delivery Suite where I got into my labour t-shirt, very surreal when I wasn't yet IN labour, and the midwife broke my waters, which flooded all over the bed, so that was it I thought. So DH and I went for a stroll to the cafe and was sitting there reading a mag, and eating a sando, when BOSH, I had the first massive contraction and waters spurted ALL OVER THE FLOOR! How embarrassing. Sat there wondering what to do for a minute and giggling with the mortification of it and the fact that I was putting everyone off their lunch, when BOSH, another huge contraction and more gushing of waters everywhere. So DH and I legged it back up to the Delivery Suite.
So there they were coming thick and fast from then on, every two minutes so I didn't bother with the tens machine but went into the pool and had gas and air, which made me giggle until I was past giggling with the pain. I had forgotten the pain. I was really struggling with the gas and air like I did last time, as when I am in pain I hold my breath, it appears, which isn't particularly conducive with sucking on gas and air, so it wasn't doing it's job and I was really struggling.
Then the hot water on the ward runs out!! So I have to get out of the pool, had my show and am 9 cms dilated, so it's time to start pushing, so i do, but to no avail. The midwife has me on all fours, standing on the floor bent over the bed, leaning on DH, then back on my back holding my legs but the baby wasn't moving at all. She then finally acknowldeges what DH has been telling her for the past hour, that the baby might be stuck like what happened with DS1, so she calls for the doctor who instantly preps me for theatre and sends DH off to get scrubbed and gowned. It's a C section for me if she can't pull the baby out, so I managed to get a spinal block, thank god, as I was a keening screaming mess by that stage with one loooooooooooooong contraction that never ended.
So Toby was yanked out with forceps, I got an episiotomy and 7 stitches, but it was over and he is here, and he is very beautiful indeed. He was a bit grunty when he came out so he spent a night in Special Care and we were in hospital for 2 days while he had some antibiotics, but we are home now and he is feeding brilliantly, although does seem to have day and night a bit arse about face....
We are very happy with our new arrival, and DS1 seems chuffed with his baby brother. Thanks for reading this.
