Some of you may of read my post when i was 37 weeks.... baby wasn't engaged so had numerous visits to the consultant. After careful consideration on both parts (us and consultant) we opted for an elective section which took place on the 16th June. There were numerous reasons for this, the main being that the head was so high and in an awkward position so there was a good chance things would've ended in an emergecny section, so we wanted to avoid that at all costs and felt much calmer with the section being planned.
We arrived at the hospital at 8am, they admitted me and told me that as long as no emergencies happened i would be first on the list, which meant being in theatre at 9.30am. That wait was horrible, then there was an emergency which delayed things a little, but only half an hour...that half hour seemed about 5 hours but at 10am off they wheeled me to theatre. I was quite calm until i said bye to my Mom (who went to wait in the waiting room) and my DP left me to go get his scrubs on, then the tears and i think what must of been realisation kicked in.
The theatre staff calmed me down and i had a fab midwife.
Unfortunately it took them about 5 attempts to get the spinal in, which was rather uncomfy and an anxious time as i knew that if it didn't go in then i would have to have a genreal. Luckily they got it in and it started to work, very strange feeling.
Once they were happy that all was fine with me, up went the screen, they started surgery and in came DP. That was very emotional.
At 10.51am Our beautiful daughter Grace Lilly arrived. Absolutely covered in Vernix which was a shock as i was 6 days over. A mass of dark hair and absolutely perfect. She was put in a hot cot as she was so wet with vernix, later that afternoon she came out of it though.
I suffered a little afterwards as i couldn't have Volterol which is apparently one of the main pain killers used for sections, i'm asthmatic and allergic to asprin. I had morphine which made no difference, so they doubled the dose by early evening which worked.
Grace breast fed straight away and is still feeding great.
I'm really enjoying being a mommy and love how my life has changed.
Grace is just perfect!!!
