Frizbe delivers dd2!!

Frizbe · 06/03/2006 12:15

Hi all, here come the epic details for those who wish to read Grin

Dh fell over the bed and cleared the windowsil of its contents at 2am on Saturday morning (trying to be quite after going to the loo...) thus waking me up, when I realised I appeard to be having very low down contractions, (and by low down I mean groin, top of legs, bottom of back) every 15 mins, so I declared as I was awake I'd go and watch rubbish tv and see how things went......
at about 3am I realised we appeared to be heading towards every 10mins, hurrah.....at 4am I had a bath to see what happened....contractions every 10-8mins....started to get excited Smile.....went back downstairs, bounced on ball etc, about 5am dh got up and declared he was taking me to hospital whether I liked it or not! I said I didn't think I needed to go yet, but I called them, (they didn't think I did either!) and got our baby sitter out of bed for dd, and about 5.45, after a quick post on here to let you all know where I'd gone! we headed for Derby City Hospital......

Got shown into triage at 6.15ish, as delivery suite were full/about to shift change and were trying to save further admissions until the change from what I can gather......got asked to do a urine sample, told em couldn't!! after 15 mins or so they found a space for me and came in and checked me over, both the staff and I were surprised to find I was nearly 5cm dilated ShockGrin I was complemented by the midwife on my calmness (but the pains were low down and felt ok, ie not too bad) and I was whisked into delivery suite without further ado!! Grin

As we went into delivery suite, the member of staff who took me in was aware I should have been a homebirth and said, oooh, shift change, the pools free if you want it, YESSSSSS PLEASE! say's I, so we get shown into the pool room and asked to wait for a MW, 15mins later at 7.15 someone pops head around door says, shift change you'll see someone in a minute, 7.30 we get Maggie, the MW, whose mum lives in the corner of our close!! Grin so we instantly know we're in expert hands! (I didn't know her dd was a MW!!)

The pool is filled by 8am and we've gone over my notes, blood is taken to see if my iron is good enough for me to deliver in pool (luckily it is! by 1%) my birthing partner arrives and her and dh and I natter away for the next two hours, with the pool taking all the pain out of my contractions, fabulous, can't recommend it enough Grin At 10am MW wonders if my waters have gone, as she reckons I'm ready to push, but they're tough and haven't , we give it half an hour or so, MW declares I really am ready to push (am still feeling happy with no drugs, where as at this point with dd I was begging for more! and getting none!) so I start pushing and managed to break waters, hurrah says I, then the pain kicks in....doh!

I cripple both of my birthing partners hands during the next 13 mins (which is what they have me clocked at on notes for pushing) and I swear only the once, when MW tells me to get a grip and have some G&A, which I'd been avoiding as last time made me really sick, thank goodness it doesn't this time!
I nearly get the head out, then run out of oomph, which is when I swear, it takes the next two contractions to get it back down and out, but I'm good, manage to push into the pain (which was nicly blurred by pethadine the last time!) and the head is born, everyone says carry on pushing but I'm all out of contraction...next one comes, I push, everyone yelling push and shoving my bum back in the water, as I'm trying to get a better pushing angle, which doesn't involve being at that particular angle in the water anymore! (not what you want with a water birth! lol) and I'm thinking I am doing, and nothings happening, but saying nothing, as all effort pushing.... but luckily, just when I'm running out off puff, Neve decides to make her entrance into the world, phew.........
Have the injection to get placenta out and Neve and I go and get to know each other on a bean bag Grin
So Neve finally born at 10:58 on 4th March, 8lbs 11oz! (a whole pound larger than dd1)and I didn't even tear, which I put down to the water birth.
Staff at Derby City Fabulous, looked after very well all day. We got a lovely side room to ourselves, own shower room, tv, sofas, tea, coffee, food etc, as we asked for same day discharge, so didn't even have to go upto main ward. So although I didn't get my planned homebirth, it went far better than I could have hoped for Grin
