Congrats to your SIL!
Wow... so tiny! Hope everything goes well from now on! Glad the baby is doing well, how's you SIL?

Tiredemma, that is lovely. I the little girl continues to do well - am I correct in thinking that 2lbs is a pretty good weight for 11 weeks prem?

tiredemma, I had a prem baby just under 2lbs 4 yrs ago. All I can say is that it is a long haul, but girls d far better than boys (!) and if she was already in distress it is actually better (!) since she would have had to develop in the womb despite problems - does that make sense? My brother who is a pediatrictian, always says that it is teh babies who have had to stuggle to survive in the womb always do far better after. I had chronic pre-eclampsia hence my prem baby, but she had obviously had to work hard since she was a bit little for her dates. (1lb 10oz is about the 24 week size) 2lbs is small for a 29 weeker, which perversly is good!

If she needs support, tell her to check out BLISS (can't remember the webite, but try bliss.org.uk??) they are a brilliant charity for prem babies and parents.

thanks everyone, i will pass on your good wishes!!!!
my SIL is well, she was up walking around today.
obviously the baby has a long way to go yet, but ive no doubt she is reciving the best possible care.
MIL has just phoned and said that they are letting my SIL hold her this afternoon.
after having two fairly trouble free pregnancies i dont have a clue as to how SIL must be feeling, but all the signs are good.
my cousin gave birth premmaturly earlier this year, at 23 weeks, she had a girl called charli-may who lived for 21 days but unfortunatly was too weak to pull through.
it was a very distressing time for the whole family.
i was 6 1/2 mths pregnant at the time and felt useless and terrible almost guilty for still being pregnant.
fortunatly my cousin got pregnant again soon after and is now 7 1/2 mths pregnant with a boy!!

its easy to take it for granted when you have a hassle free pregnancy and birth.

tiredemma that is great if your sil can hold the baby already! That is a really positive sign, for me it was 11 days However 29 weekers have about a 90+% chance of being perfectly alright. 23 weekers are very rare, and when you consider legal abortion goes on until 24 weeks!!! Doesn't bear thinking about.

Good luck and send her all my wishes, my 4 yr old is perfect, albiet a little bit little, but who cares, she's a petite doll!
