Hi all, just thought I'd put a quick post down to let those that know me that we've had a baby girl!! Leah Charlotte arrived four days late after a four hour labour with no pain relief except gas and air, weighing a healthy (or should that be heafty!)8lb12. She is wonderful.

Dh and my mum were with me. Contractions started mildly in the early hours of Fri night, but by 3pm Sat they were getting quite painful. Went off and had a bath and a lie down. By 5pm I really wanted more pain relief, but ofcourse it took us an hour to get out of the house and to the hospital even though its only 5 mins away!! Got there, no beds. Ended up being that annoying woman groaning like a banshee out in the hallway and 20 mins later I was examined and was 9cm dilated! Couldn't believe it. I would have died if she'd said 3... So waters were broken and 15 mins later an unexpected baby girl arrived into the world (I looked and carried just like my son and the heartrate was always around 140, so it was quite a shock, but ofcourse a most pleasant one). 1/4 tear, no stitches and a fanfair of fireworks at exactly the right moment!! One of my strongest memories was shouting "Get it OOOOUUUTTTTT!" My God how do we do it??!

Anyway, that's our little story and she's soooooo wonderful. All of a sudden my 2.4yo seems so big and grownup. He's been so good with her.

Hope to see some MNers soon, in the New Year most likely, to show them both off

PS. Thankfully both the 36wk & 39wk GBS swabs I had done (privately) came back -ve so neither mum nor babe had IVAB's, but Leah was monitored for 24hrs in hospital and given the all clear

Congratulations! Look forward to meeting the new arrival in the new year. Or maybe you can make a guest appearance if we organise a local Christmas meet up?!

Kayleigh · 09/11/2005 12:28

aww 99 that is such lovely news. And so quick - you clever girl !

I can so well remember the feeling that one minute you are the mother of a small person who still seems so babylike and the next minute that small person seems so huge and grown up next to a new baby.

Enjoy every minute with your baby girl. Can't wait to meet her soon. Loads of love XXX

99redballoons, I have a bonfire baby too - only mine was 7 on Saturday! She was born at 6pm just as the hospital started its firework display (which I could see from the labour room!) - happy memories!!

Enjoy your lovely (big!) baby

PeachyClair · 09/11/2005 12:48

Hi all, it's great to hear from you. It seems so strange scanning the breastfeeding and sleep pages again!! Seem to need MN help just as much this time round! Pls email me any meetup dates and we'll see what we can do.

Mears, when I was first examined I was found to be 9cm with my waters still in tact. Not sure if that was slowing things (even though progress was good over the previous 4-5hrs) but the mw just said I'll break your waters and then we'll start pushing. I'd already had the sensation twice to push at that point. Must admit I didn;t think anything of it at the time and after about 10 little pushes and panting over 8-10 mins it was all over. Do you think it was unnecessary? At that point I was screaming to get her out!

mears · 10/11/2005 22:11

Yes I think it was unecessary. They would have broken themselves anyway - or the baby might have been born in the sack which is more gentle for the baby. It is very tempting just to break the waters but not at all needed at that stage. Never mind though, all was well. Enjoy your baby

mcmudda · 11/11/2005 20:52

Wow!!! Anorak just emailed me!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And soooooo sorry for having been so out of the loop for months! Will speak properly soon - promise!

A wee girl! - I can heartily recommend the big brother, little sister combination

Is she "Lee-ah" or "Lee" (both gorgeous by the way)

Ds and dd send their love

99redballoons · 13/11/2005 13:59

Thx mears.

Mcmudda!! I'm so sorry too... where has the time gone? She's a "Lee-ah" Such a surprise, we were sooooo sure "it" was a boy. I'm sure we would have felt this way what she was, but for some reason we feel really complete now. Having one of each was never dreamed of and now it's happened we feel so blessed. But like I said I'm sure we would have felt complete whatever we would have had. Talk to you soon. x
