Beatrice Alice made her rather rapid entrance into the world at 9.35pm this evening weighing in at 5lb 15.5oz. I'll post the full story in the morning but we are both fine. Freedom at last!

Thanks everyone for all your lovely messages. Here goes with the "full" story - not that there is that much to tell really.

those who have read the mums2be moving on thread know that they dispatched me to hospital yesterday afternoon to assess me for pre-eclampsia. Well everything was fine and they sent me home at about 4.30. Got home at 5.45 having had about 6 mild twinges on the way, fed the kids and flopped onto the sofa at 7.30 while they got ready for bed. Instantly hit by a proper contraction. Kids had been really lively all day so decided to put them to bed and see what happened. At 8pm another contraction, then another 3 by 20past so phoned the MW. However my waters hadn't broken which surprised us and they were short and not very painful so we decided to wait another half an hour or so and see what happened.

However by at 9pm they really kicked off every couple of minutes and were getting really painful so we phoned again to chase the MW. Have to say DH was great I was wandering round and leaning against him when they hit. He managed to do and say all the right things - his best labour yet About 9.15 I became desperate for my entonox but when we opened it there were loads of bits and poor DH couldn't put it together. I became a bit upset at this point but between the contractions the sensible part of me managed to mutter that this was a good sign as I was probably in transition.

9.30 DH was still trying to do the jigsaw and something told me to kneel down. Another big contraction hit and I yelled as loud as I could "Where is that F MW!" at which point there was a knock at the door and she walked in. I moaned "Its coming - get my gas and air PLEASE" so she dashed over and they handed me the mouthpiece. Took one suck but nothing came out - then I had another contraction and the baby flew out. Didn't even push really.

MW handed her straight to me and we could see it was a little girl. She looked really tiny (5lb 15.5oz) so almost exactly the same as DS. She was covered in vernix so the MW said she couldn't really have been that overdue.

DH dashed upstairs to get the kids and the 2nd MW arrived.DD was sleepy and flopped onto the sofa but DS (5) was really excited. He helped his daddy cut the cord and then Beatrice plugged in for a good feed. The placenta took about another hour to appear - didn't have any injections, and the membranes had a really neat little hole where she'd popped out. My waters only broke just before she came out this time but no mess. I think we only used 2 incopads all together.

Baby is beautiful and very alert and feeding really well. She's already wearing her lovely cloth nappies although they all look huge on her. I'm fine too although had really bad afterpains last night so not much sleep but no tears or anything and I feel fine.

Looking forward to venturing out to show DD2 () the big wide world - just can't belive I'm not pg anymore. Yeah!

Many congratulations Katherine on the birth of your baby dd!

Jemma7 · 22/08/2003 12:34

Congratulations again Katherine - the whole experience sounds magical - apart from wondering where "that F MW" was!

So glad you got your home delivery - enjoy not being pg and having a beautiful baby girl to kiss, cuddle, squeeze, love, cherish, adore....................

Bekki · 22/08/2003 12:56

Congratulations it sounded perfect and mercifully short. It must have been strange for your kids being put to bed one minute and then being woken to see a new baby sister the next. Gorgeous name and such a dainty girl as well, she must look adorable. Congrats again to the whole family.

Metrobaby · 22/08/2003 12:57

Wow Katherine ! Congratulations, and well done.

neen99 · 22/08/2003 13:20

Congratulations Katherine!
Really glad you got through it so quickly and you're both okay.
Beatrice Alice is a beautiful name, have you got Australian roots?!
Hope to join you in Birth Announcements soon!
