my dad died last year after a house fire which was devastating for us,my sister and me didn't get on until this tragedy.but since then itbought us together.any way its my 40th birthday and this morning i received a parcel from my sister, in it was a silver framed photo of my dad in his 30,s with a big smile on his face raising his large beer glass, (he was 73 when he died) it was such alovely photo but bittersweetso im delighted but sad that hes not here to see me reach 40.she also sold his motor bike which had been sitting in his garden for over a decade and sent me £100,i dont want to waste this on rubbish but a keepsake to keep as a reminder of dad any ideas please im gobsmacked and so grateful to my sister for the thought she put into this especially as her job is on the line at present

So sorry for such a terrible tragedy.
How about a special piece of jewellery to wear and remember him? I'm sure you could get a lovely silver bangle or necklace. Locket even?

so sorry that you lost your dad.
happy birthday for today.
a watch is another idea for a gift to buy yourself.

hi all and thanks in the end i ordered a heart pendant inscribed with this poem, "If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again":
thought it very touching and appropriate

That sounds so lovely and touching, the photo of your dad raising a glass to you on your 40th birthday.
