Suddenly ‘feeling’ my orphan status!

I’m mid 40s, F, both my parents have died, all grandparents dead, and I am an only child.

I don’t think about it that much, but I need to have a bit of a scary (for me) health procedure soon, not life-threatening or anything - and today out of the blue, it hit me that I wish my mum or dad were still here.

I have a husband and nice friends, but I just had this feeling that I wish I could tell my mum what was happening. Somehow, I think my parents might ‘feel’ it more… that they might offer me more comfort than anyone else.

It’s a weird feeling and it’s taken me by surprise.

Hi I'm the same with the same dynamics as you . I agree it's copeable , most of the time but it's still hard when you realise you technically have no past you can share with those around you who were ' there ' at the time . Family holidays , Christmas mornings , shared family special moments etc .
