What are stonemason’s fees on a funeral bill in the UK?

A relative was dealing with the funeral arrangements for another relative. Does anyone know what Stonemasons Fees relates to on a funeral bill? I don’t think I’m being told the truth by the relative as they are trying to say more costs are going to be taken out for the funeral yet the bank took all the funeral payments out and I saw this on a bank statement I had to obtain from the bank. I need to know what it is for as multiple people are going to be receiving money as inheritance and proofs need to be collated and shown. Thanks.

Would the fee be for engraving a headstone ?

Has tge recently deceased gone into an existing grave? In which case it could be for removing and storing the gravestone until it can be replaced again.

When I was sorting the probate for my mum, one of the last bills to be paid before the money was divvied out was the stonemason forvthe headstone (6 months after she was buried I think).

Headstone. And it can be horrendously expensive. Existing stones usually need an anchor fitting retrospectively to bring them up to modern safety standards. The ones I’ve dealt with have also been extremely pushy with new stones and amendments. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from a woman (who was in my dad’s class at school who married the mason!) slyly trying to get me to add dearly beloved rather than loved, because they charged by the letter.
