Probate has been really quick!

Just a heads up, that if you are able to do your IHT400 and probate forms yourself (and apply for probate online), the whole process for me has taken just 19 days from sending the IHT forms off to receiving the grant of probate. I am amazed.

I was dealing with a large but simple estate (only one beneficiary and everything above the IHT threshold going to charity). The IHT took the most time to complete but the HMRC accompanying guide notes were excellent.

There is hope out there, the long delays of recent years are clearly coming to an end!

Useful to know. Just beginning the process- can you submit the IHT 400 online or did you have to post everything?

I posted the IHT forms, I had IHT400 plus 6 others to fill in. As a guide, I posted them tracked and signed on a Monday and had my code for probate by the Thursday.
Probate form filled in online the same Thursday, had an instant email back to say send us the will which was sent the Friday, probate granted 13 days later and the actual probate grants arrived two days later in the post. Very quick.

The hardest thing was the IHT forms but I took my time, printed them off and did them in draft before filling in the final versions.

Really good to know - I did POA for both of my parents (so 4x because medical and financial) - cost me maybe half a day of effort with filling in forms (I also did drafts!) and getting things to and from the other signers... their solicitor wanted to charge £1,500. As it was my dad gave me £200 as a thank you - so win, win!
