Bereavement support payments

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice really. My ex husband sadly passed away 2 months ago and we hadn't been living together for 4 years, however we never divorced so still legally married. We have a 15 year old daughter.

Can I still apply for the bereavement support payments even though we weren't living together at the time of his death? If I am entitled to it, it would be so useful to put some away for my daughter for the future.

Thanks xx

Possibly.
There is a bit on the Gov site saying it must be claimed within 21 months, but may be claimed for after this time
“Or you were separated from them…”

Sorry about the pic, phone issues 🙄

I think you can if you are separated but it may depend if he was married to someone else. It would be worth going through the forms especially as you have a child together.

Was he living with anyone at the time of his death?

Neither of us have remarried as we didn't divorce...
I'll give them a ring x

He was kind of half living with his girlfriend and half living with his parents.

Does he have children with the girlfriend? That would make your claim difficult.

My ex husband died from his own alcoholism. He left behind our 10yo daughter. I wasn’t entitled to anything at all because we were divorced, and it made me mad that my daughter got no financial support from him at all because of his own inability to stop drinking. Sorry, irrelevant to your situation OP but just brought it all back.
