If an employee has had 5 days paid compassionate leave after the death of a parent, can they then be signed off sick by the GP on day 6, or do they then self certify for 5 days and get signed off on day 11?

My GP was happy to sign me off instantly, so bereavement leave didn’t even kick in, but I know our GPS would be happy to do it straight after bereavement leave rather than telling you to self certify. That would be horribly cruel.
Sorry for your loss Flowers

When I called the GP, i only managed to get through to the receptionist the first time who told me the first 7 days was self certified and to call back after 7 days. The second time i called after the 7 days, I got through to GP who was very sympathetic and signed me off for 2 months. My mum took her own life , so there was an element of PTSD regarding the discovery of her death itself as well as grieving. Everyone grieves differently, and I hope you get as long as you need. There's no right or wrong. Wishing you strength.
