Obtaining a death certificate

I've applied for a copy of a death certificate and the website says to allow 15 days. The death was not local to me and the certificate will be posted. Do they normally take that long or is it usually quicker? The express service was too expensive so I went for the standard but first class post.

Hi op it depends. Sometimes they are delivered earlier sometimes not they are very good if you need to phone them up though. My copy of my mum's death certificate was delayed because the machine chewed the envelope 🥴 a quick phone call sorted it out x

In my limited experience, the paperwork of all kinds can take ages in some areas.
When DH's grandparents died, both times, it took my diligent, shrewd FIL several weeks to extract the paperwork from Kent County.

A colleague's SIL died the same week as my DH. Her family had all the relevant paperwork so that there was a funeral, burial and separate memorial service in the greater London area, in about 10 days or less, before I was even able to have an appointment with the Hampshire registrar!

My solicitor suggested that I only needed 3 or 4 original death certificates for DH and offered to make official, stamped, signed copies for free. Most places were content to have a photo of an original emailed to them.

I ended up calling them and I was told 15 days but when I w opined why I needed it it magically arrived the next day.
