Ddad passed away 10 days ago after a short illness (cancer). He died at home and although he was ill it was not expected. We are now waiting for dad to have a post mortem but we have hit heard anything since the day he died if I try to contact they just say there is a back log and to email in.
does any one have any idea how long this might take

My dad died about the same time. It was also unexpected. The coroner released him on Thursday without post-mortem. They said they were able to just put old age. Our office was really communicative I’m sorry yours isn’t.

I'm sorry for your loss OP. I'm a funeral arranger and it's impossible to say how long it will be because every coroner is different and if yours has a backlog it could be days yet.

what I would say is don't delay going to see a funeral director because your dad is with the coroner. Are you planning on a cremation? The crematoria in my area (SE England) are busier in the winter months and we're already booking into the third week of December.

The funeral director can start things off, finding out from you what you want for the funeral, and they can book a date with the crematorium. If it's getting closer with no release, then the funeral director can always call the crematorium and push the date back.

I hope you can get moving with things soon.
