First Mother’s Day without mum - ways to mark?

Hi all,

My SIL lost her mum this year to cancer very young (my SIL is early twenties). My SIL is not the sentimental type, but my DB and I thought he should probably be ready to mark the day with her in some way. I was thinking my DB could offer to make dinner for her and her dad that night, but are there any other simple and low-key ideas that have helped mark a first Mother’s Day without mum?

Just to clarify - we’re in Canada where Mother’s Day is next week. I’m not thinking ahead to next year’s UK Mother’s Day!
