My dad

I'm a sometime poster and regular lurker.

My dad died tonight. We were so, so close. He was elderly and had numerous health problems, but was as sharp as anything. The pain I'm feeling is just indescribable. I just need to tell someone.

I'm so sorry. The losing a parent is so incredibly hard.

I opened this thread because I’m missing my Dad who fits your description of your Dad. My Dad died in April. Sending a virtual hug.

With his considerable age and health issues I knew it would happen in the not too distant future, but it's still a shock and I feel almost numb. I was there and I'm so pleased he wasn't alone.

I was completely bowled over by the compassion shown by the nursing staff tonight. I'll never forget that.

I’m sorry op, I’m sorry you’ve lost your Dad and I’m sorry that I don’t have anything to say that can help how you feel right now Brew
I hope you have photographs and lovely memories to comfort you, I found the former very helpful when I went through losses x

Clevererthanyou · 09/11/2020 00:50

I’m glad the nursing staff were supportive, it’s so important that professionals that we interact with at times like this get it right Flowers
You may (but may not) find it useful to keep a pen and notepad to hand for the next few months as it can be a good outlet for thoughts and feelings (and copious lists if you’re responsible for arranging anything) x

😭❤️ This is something I dread so much. Thinking of you.

user853600 · 09/11/2020 03:28

Sorry OP.
You say you were close, would you like to share some memories of him?

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 09/11/2020 03:29

I’m so very sorry Flowers

Well, he was mostly a cantankerous git, right up until the point he retired nearly 30 years ago. Then he became the gentlest, kindeat, most humerous man. We were often in a two person battle of wills with my mother...! There's a part of me that thinks he'll enjoy the peace for a bit up there. Nothing feels real yet.

Sending love op. There's no-one like your dad. Irreplaceable

Take care, OP. Daffodil
