To take something along?

Hello,

I found out that a brother of a very good, old friend took his own life a few days before Christmas.

I spent a lot of time with both brothers at their family home as a teenager.

I saw my friend tonight, and I am going over to see the parents tomorrow for lunch.

Should I take anything along? Flowers? I have no idea... I haven't been in a situation like this, so unsure if I need to bring anything really.

Flowers might be nice, but get a small bouquet that comes in a box ready without the need for a vase or arranging them.
Well done for you for being brave enough to visit them. Having lost 2 really close relatives very suddenly, you become all too aware that people just don't know what to say and so avoid you. I'm sure you'll be ale to share some good memories of their son.

I appreciated people popping by with proper food, flowers just die which isn't nice.

Biscuits for all the visitors perhaps. They won't want to be out shopping I imagine.

Personally i wouldn't take flowers. When my dd died we had 40+ arrangements of flowers delivered. Most ended up in the bin because no one watered them.

I would take a sympathy card and a box of biscuits, with a lot of visitors they will come in handy.
I'm sure they will be touched and wont forget that you've taken time to visit.
