After an operation to remove tumours from his lungs, unfortunately he had complications and was on life support from Wednesday last week, he went into organ failure on Friday and he was given the last rites and my mum agreed to turn off life support on Saturday afternoon, there was 11 of us at his bedside as he passed away
My Step dad battled alcohol abuse for many years and he and dm split up after she had enough but got back together when he was 6 months sober, however he got mouth cancer at 8 months sober, then lung cancer twice more he recovered from that and over time became a counsellor at AA and became a mentor to lots of people struggling with addiction, he was a strong character and didn't drink from the moment he stopped until the day he died and that was 10 years, the more recent tumours were only found a month ago
Dm and Ds went to his AA meeting on Monday to tell the group and they were all devastated but talked about how much he helped them, so much so that the clinic were it's held is going to rename the sessions after my stepdad
Just wanted to talk about him really, he came into my life when 1 was 15, not an easy age to accept an authority figure but after he became sober we had a great relationship and I am happy to say that he gave me the same love he gave his own son and daughter that he had with my mum
