Funeral wear

So I've been very lucky that I've never had to attend a funeral until now. Would this dress be ok? With a cardigan or light shawl thing.

The link will have to do. But is it formal enough without being to formal? I wasn't close to said person so dont want to be over the top or like I dont care

It might be a bit short (I assume you aren’t going for the red).

NotSoThinLizzy · 24/04/2019 18:55

I would be wearing black leggings too forgot to say. Need to hide the lumps and bumps. Currently 13 weeks pregnant too so didn't want anything to tight

Second link not working and the first is a short party dress Confused.
You don't have to wear black. Don't you have anything neutral or smart?

Bringbackthestripes · 24/04/2019 19:02

I have to say I’m not a dress person. I’ve only ever worn black trousers, shoes and cardigan/jacket with a cream or black top but I don’t really think a bodycon dress is funeral wear as per pp link.

Have you bought the dress you posted a link to? It does look a tad short but hard to tell with it not being on someone. Do you have to buy something new? Nothing dark in your wardrobe already? You could have a look in the local charity shops.

Bringbackthestripes · 24/04/2019 19:02

Ahh just seen update. Just get a dark tunic for over your leggings maybe?

Nanasueathome · 24/04/2019 19:06

The last funeral I attended was my aunt’s
Her favourite colour was green and we were all asked to wear something green
It was really quite nice seeing everyone in colours rather than traditional black

NotSoThinLizzy · 24/04/2019 19:17

I dont have anything already that would be ok for a funeral lots of patterned stuff very casual. I have to buy something new. Without going into the big back story it's my grandads funeral who wouldn't want there anyways but I need to support my mum.

Do you have a navy or purple skirt maybe? Doesn't have plain either, I've worn flower patterned black and purple.

NotSoThinLizzy · 24/04/2019 20:44

I've no skirts 😂 also just Jean's for trousers which can't be worn. There's going to be alot of tounge wagging going on so dont want to add fuel to the fire

Would you get more wear out of black trousers? It's a more flexible option.

YonWeeLassie · 24/04/2019 21:53

A pair of black trousers will always come in useful. You can wear any top with them. Maybe a plain cardigan or jacket. Work clothes really.

Angie169 · 24/04/2019 22:04

I dont wear dresses or skirts either , I would go for some smart black trousers with a very dark red / blue /green blouse and black blazer type jacket .
As PP said you will get more use out of something that you are likely to wear again .

ElinoristhenewEnid · 25/04/2019 13:53

Why black? Just not necessary nowadays. I wore this for my dh's funeral and had a lot of positive comments about how great I looked!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 25/04/2019 13:56

Not leggings, tights and I'd find a jacket to cover my arms.

Still18atheart · 25/04/2019 13:59

Following as have a funeral tomorrow and whittled it down to four potentials. Other options were scraped for being too summery and one black dress which mum veoted saying just because it’s a funeral doesn’t mean you have to wear black

NotSoThinLizzy · 25/04/2019 14:00

Pretty sure everyone else is going to be wearing black so dont want to stand out really.

Widowodiw · 10/05/2019 04:34

Wear whatever you like.
Those in mourning won’t give a shit what you wear. It won’t make a difference to them. At my dh funeral one of
His friends wore a tracksuit. I didn’t give a shit because the tears running down his face were what mattered.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/05/2019 04:42

I would do black trousers with a top - top can be patterned but not too casual.

I have the opposite problem. I'm going to a funeral next week where we have been asked to wear bright clothes but smart. All my smart stuff is grey/navy/black I dont have anything smart but colourful.

Runkle · 10/05/2019 05:09

What about these? I wouldn't wear leggings personally. Tights or black trousers if you go down that route.
