Does anyone have any advice on bleeding after a erpc please. I started having small bleeds at 5 weeks pregnant and about every week or so after that, but was told it was normal if i had i had no pain. At my 12 week scan found the heartbeat had stopped at about 8 weeks so i opted for medical management which was very painful and horrific i lost everything exept the baby so had to have an erpc in the end anyway. Anyway its been 4 weeks on monday since the erpc and im still lightly bleeding. My doctors put me on antibiotics in case its an infection but im scared that there not going to work and im going to have to go back to hospital, ive been on them for 2 days. Is any of this seeming familiar to anyone i would really like to hear it!

Hi, sorry to hear about your m/c. I have had many of them and ime bleeding, sometimes quite heavy, can occur for a while afterwards. Infact after erpc I didn't bleed immediately but after a week or so started to bleed again and it could get pretty heavy.
I found that the procedure didn't always get rid of everything.
My body always settled down in the end. I never had any infections. But the cramping for weeks afterwards could really be quite painful.

Signs of infection ar pain, fever and smelly discharge. If you are otherwise feeling well then the chances are you haven't got an infection but your body is just taking its time clearing you out ready for your next try! Good luck!!

thankyou for replying kittyhas6 that has defineatly helped no pain, fever or nasty smells just the bleeds. Could just get over it so much quicker if it wasnt for this. Puts it in perspective when i hear about people that have gone through this more than once you defineatly deserve it when it happens!

Hi AxMxY, really sorry to hear your loss. I had a missed mc back in feb and had an erpc. I bled for about 3 weeks after and went back to the EPU- they re-scanned me and found retained products. I had to have a second erpc and again bled for 3 weeks. I was in a complete state that I would need another op, but it seems I just took a while to heal after the 2nd op. I don't mean to alarm you but if the bleeding carries on i would insist on a scan if only to put your mind at rest.

Thanks for replying torres im dropping off a sample for an extra sensitive pregnancy test tomorrow so im assuming that the results of that will pick up anything wrong. Anyone else have any similar stories ones maybe where they bled for a while but everything was ok?

Hope everything goes ok. HCG can stay around for a few weeks even without 'retained products' so don't be too alarmed if you get a positive result, its not necessarily bad news. Fingers crossed for you, and take care. Are you taking any multi vits /iron to build up your strength? I was recommended 'spatone' which is a natural iron supplement (i got it in Boots). Others have taken Floradix. There's a thread on the conception boards about this. There's also a trying to conceive after mc thread which I've found really supportive.

Thank god i insisted on a scan i went into hospital lots of questions, blood test and finally a scan. Scan picked up a small amount of retained product she asked if there was any chance i was preg again i said no chance, ive been bleeding so long i havent had the chance to make any more babies. Anyway im booked in tomorrow for another erpc and hopefully this will be the end of it. I would recommend to anyone in a similar situation to keep on to them if you think you should because things are a lot slower otherwise. Ill let you know how i get on!

I'm so sorry you have to go through this again. I crumbled when I was told I had to have a second ERPC. I felt as though everything was being dragged on and on, and I had chosen the ERPC route in the first place as was told it would be quick and draw a line under things. How are you feeling? As you say, you really have to keep on at them which is hard at a time when you are so vulnerable and emotional. Does your hospital offer a 'guided erpc' where they do the procedure with ultrasound? It's worth asking when you go through the consent/ pre op forms. I didn't realise this was an option first time, but had it the second time round and it gave me a bit more reassurance it would be successful. Do you have time booked off work? I found having 2 lots of general anaesthetics really knocked me out in addition to the weeks of bleeding.
Take things slowly and be kind to yourself. Thinking of you tomorrow.

AxMxY · 01/06/2007 14:17

Had my second erpc yesterday. I had to stay in overnight as the anaesthetics made me really sick and i couldn't keep the painkillers down. It defineatly wasn't this bad last time, i feel exhausted.
Anyway the procedure was successful they said the tissue was only the size of a finger nail but enough to keep causing the bleeds. The surgeon asked me if he could put a camera in while i was under to double check that everything was gone, so now i know for sure.
Im off work til monday and im going to see how i go over the weekend but i just want to get back to normal. I can't wait for a normal period to come now, i know that sounds mad but i will know for sure then that everything is back to normal.
Thanks for your support everyone it was good to know someone else had experience to offer about this.

sorry to hear you had to stay in overnight, but glad they used a camera and now you can really start to rebuild yourself physically and mentally. It took 5 weeks for my period to come which was absolutely maddenning, I was convinced they had damaged me in some way but from what I've seen on the ttc after mc thread, this is a normal timeframe. It took me a while to get my energy back so like you say see how you go over the weekend. Don't push yourself too hard, if in any doubt take more time off work- you are much more important.
