Marking special occasions

My dm passed away last summer so the only "first" we've encountered so far was Christmas, however in the next couple of months it would have been her birthday & my parents anniversary (my dad is still alive) - I just wondered what other people do or are planning to do on occasions they would normally have celebrated?

My mum was cremated so there is no grave & my dad still has her ashes so no "special place" to visit as such.

I do something nice for myself on the anniversary of DB's death. I know that he loved me, so i show myself that kindness. I write him a letter too, then have a good cry.

Thank you - sounds lovely but I don't think I'll have much time for myself as ever I'm more concerned about my dad than myself! Added to that it's my son's birthday in the same week but I don't want that overshadowed by the memory of my mum's - such dilemmas
