We suffered a bereavement yesterday and a close family member has been widowed with a young family.

DH is going to be a practical support - can anyone advise on websites or resources than can help us to help them guide through this process?

Really could do with some help x

Sorry for your loss.

Presuming you're in the UK, there is the Tell Us Once service that informs all government departments with one call. I found this invaluable a few months ago.

Really though, not much (official) can be done until the death certificate is issued. This can take time if the case has to be referred to a coroner or if an inquest is needed.

Have all family and friends been informed? Someone to help ringing round is very useful too.

I found this website a big help when I was suddenly widowed with two young children: www.merrywidow.me.uk - there's a talk board for people in the same position, and the book written by the founder of the site was also good.

www.winstonswish.org.uk offers very useful advice on how to help young children through the loss of a parent.

And I have heard lots of positive things about www.widowedandyoung.org.uk, though I didn't use it myself.
