No heartbeat, but hcg levels rising, very confused

Hi I am new, so firstly I want to say hello.

I am desperate for any hope anyone can give me.

3 weeks ago I had some spotting at what I thought could be around 6 weeks pregnant. I went to the hospital and was scan only to be told that she could see the sac but nothing in it.

I was scanned two weeks later and they could see the yolk sac and foetal pole which she said measured 5mm, but couldn't see a heartbeat. She confirmed that I was just 6 weeks. The consultant said I was to have bloods taken that day and two days later. My results were 12,197 and then 14,500, so because they hadn't double I had another scan last Tuesday where they said that there was no development in measurements on the scan and no heatbeat (I should have been 7 weeks). I was told that I should have a d&c or wait naturally but that they wanted to do final bloods.

I got a phone call that night to be told that my hcg levels had muddled them because it was still rising (18,000) but not at the rate that they would like. Therefore the registrar was not happy to perform an operation whilst the level is still rising and I am being scanned next Tuesday.

This is emotionally draining because I had prepared myself for the worst and now don't know what to think.

Is there anyone with any information or guidance as I am desperate.

Thank you Cobwebxxx

Good luck cobweb. My cousin also lost a twin but unfortunately she had a d&C and the rest of the story is not a good one but luckily she now has an absolutely gorgeous little girl who just happens to also be my goddaughter

cobweb ( sorry have only just spotted this)
best of luck at your scan tomorrow - fingers crossed for really good news

mummytosteven · 11/07/2004 12:02

cobweb - at least it's a fairly early appointment, so you won't be left in limbo too much longer - now you just need to make the time go as quickly as possible. It all sounds very positive with the symptoms - keeping everything crossed for you.

aloha · 11/07/2004 12:05

Good luck today. I hope you get the answer you want and an end to this terrible uncertainty.

I'm crying as I type this. Had the scan and no development or heartbeat and the sac had decreased in size, therfore they determined that I had miscarried.

Got to call the hospital in the morning, worried as I've never had an operation before.

Thank you all again and good luck Jolly4 for tomorrow, my heart is with you during this unsettled time for you.

Pidge · 11/07/2004 16:47

So so sad to hear this - have been following this thread and hoping for happier news.

enid · 11/07/2004 16:47

So sorry cobweb, do you have to have a d&c or will they let you carry on to miscarry naturally? Too early to say this now I know but you WILL go on to have another healthy baby although that is probably the furthest thing from your mind. Sorry you've had this horrible wait and now its time to try to come to terms with it, with love x E

Thank you Lisalisa, I just don't know what to wear, do or what, I am so confused.

I have been told not to eat anything after midnight and only have a juice in the morning.

Any advice would be so welcome.
