Can anyone guide me regarding benefits for a young widow/mother of 4?

My cousin's DH died suddenly last week (well, he's been very ill for 2 years, but was in remission - the death itself was unexpected) - anyway, she's been caring for him for the last 3 years and raising their family so hasn't worked and they had been surviving on his sick pay, which had just gone down to SSP.

She's now left holding the fort with 4 young children and in the very, very raw throes of grief, can't countenance applying for benefits / support / help / anything and I know a little about how to talk to DWP!

I don't know, though, what might be out there that isn't known about... I've found out about the bereavement payment and widowed parent allowance, I think it's called.

is there anything else, other than HB/CTC/CB?

thank you for any help Sad

Call the Turn2us helpline on 0808 802 2000 9 am - 8 pm, Monday – Friday.

They have a benefit calculator on the website but if you call and speak to a real person you can explain their situation.

Flowers for her.
