Hardy plant suggestions needed......

One of my friends had a missed miscarriage in the summer. Her due date, which she kept secret, has just passed and I'd like to buy her a plant that won't perish in the winter frost and could be easily transportable if they were to move house. I've posted in the Garden Club board but haven't heard anything - and wondered if any of you who have been through the same might be able to suggest a suitable plant. Many thanks

Hi there,

Depending on where you live, you could pot an olive tree. Mine is outside my back door and is fine in this mild winter - it can be covered in fleece to protect it further. We bought the olive tree for my EDD in June06, but on the first anniversary of our loss (Oct05) we bought an apple tree, so to get blossom in spring and fruit in late autumn.

Hope this helps, and what a lovely friend you are.

Many thanks Jill.....the frost isn't too bad in Kent, so I'll pop to a garden centre this week.
