Does anybody know what the purple folder in end of life hospice care actually means?

As my mum gets worse, the hospice nurse has talked about switching to a purple folder for end of life care.
Does anybody know what this means? I've read tooany horror stories about the Liverpool care pathway. I woudn't want, for example, her to be denied drinks if she wants them. Can anyone help?

Please speak with the hospice staff, they will be more than happy to explain what exactly will be involved and how much input you and your mum will still have with decisions about her care.

I have read that the denying fluids is because the body starts to shut down and giving fluid does more harm than good at that stage but I think you can offer moistened cloths to ease dry lips and mouth.

Hospices are the best place for end of life care, I have experienced this with my DP's father. The hospital and GP were useless, to put it mildly, at managing his pain but as soon as he went into the hospice, he was treated with respect and his comfort was paramount.

Hi Oly i would ask them.I have a feeling my DF has filled in his end of life wishes ie DNR etc and no antibiotics to be given if the infection is too bad.Now you mention it i feel that may have been a purple folder with his wishes written down by the hospice nurse.My heart goes out to you xx
