Post m/c spotting - will it ever end?!

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to have to ask what seems like such a trivial question but I don't seem to be able to find any answers out there....

Since my m/c, which started on 1 November, I bled heavily for over 2 weeks and passed the sac on about day 9. Thankfully the heavy bleeding stopped but I have been spotting every day ever since. I would have thought that after 3 weeks, it would be clearing up by now.

I had a missed m/c at 12 weeks so I guess being more advanced, there was more to come out, but this dragging on is really getting me down.

Does anyone know how long I can expect this to continue for? I am just desperate for it all to end and for my period to arrive so I can start from the beginning again.

Any advice much appreciated - thanks for reading.

Hi Wavedancer, so sorry to hear about your M/C.
I bled and finished by spotting for about 10 days after I M/C naturally. I was 9 wks pg. I had a few days respite and then I started bleeding heavily again which totally freaked me out - it was my period but an extra heavy one.

I went to the docs to check me out and she confirmed it was my period because I am on a very short cycle and my body had gone back to normal very quickly.

I would recommend you visit your doctor and discuss it. There may be some retained elements of the pregnancy which is making the bleeding continue and this should be dealt with at the hospital.

much love
Gill x

Hi Wavedancer.
Really sorry to hear of your loss.
I too had a missed m/c last month at 12 weeks (baby had died at approx 6 weeks). Bleeding lasted about 3 weeks in total (the last week was just light bleeding / spotting). I thought it would never end, but it did.
The hospital told me the bleeding could drag on (as I had a natural m/c), which it did, and no need to panic about it unless you have pain, or it gets progressively heavier instead of lighter, or if it starts to smell (which could indicate an infection).
A/f started 4 and a half weeks after m/c bleeding started, so your body can get back to 'normal' pretty quickly afterwards.
Hoping we all have better luck next time x

Thanks for the replies girls. I'm sorry to hear you've had similar experiences.

I began to miscarry on the same day I had the 12-week scan (which was a bit weird) and it happened naturally. When I went back for a scan 2 weeks ago, to check it was all gone, they did identify a remaining clot. However, they said the clot would probably stay put until my next period. I guess maybe instead it is still slowly making its way out.

Sorry to hear of your losses. I am miscarrying at the moment(@ 8 wks). It started Sunday and is showing no signs of abating. My last one was around the same time but was much quicker and more painful. I understand how you feel wavedancer - like you I just want to get it over and done with so you can get back to normal again.
