I went for a scan at 13 weeks and discovered my baby didn't have a heartbeat and wasn't moving. The date was given as 9 weeks. I had D and C on Tuesday and today my stomach aches and feels really tight. Is this to be expected. I don't have heavy bleeding. Please give me some advice. Thanks

I'm very sorry about your mc zuc.

I have had 2 D&Cs and for me they were both painless - both times I was earlier on in pregnancy than you were. They did send me home with a couple of painkillers after the last one, though, in case I needed them. Possibly your pain is your womb contracting back. If it persists after the weekend and/or is/becomes severe, it might be worth being checked out. Otherwise, get plenty of rest, take painkillers if you feel you need them, and be kind to yourself.

Sorry to hear this Zuc, esact same happened to me about 7yrs ago, at 13 weeks, baby stopped growing at 8/9 weeks. Awful thing, greive as much as you like, I creid for all the things I hoped my baby would have been, and still think of her now.. I had period type pains for about a week after, and bleeding but it took about 3 months for period to come proper. felt exhausted after D&C. Is it your first pg? Iwent on to have two healthy pgs after this. Best wishes

i lost my first baby through a missed m/c i had a scan at 12 weeks and the baby stopped growing at 8 weeks, when i had a d and c it was achy but not to painful and the bleeding was a lot lighter than a normal period, you do need a greiving process and i will just say that 5 months later i was pregnant with ds1 so remind yourself that things can move on - take care

Same here, with a 12 week scan showing an 8 week foetus and no heartbeat.
I had mild pain for the first few days (paracetamol worked a treat) and light bleeding. Than after a week I had sudden major pain and extremely heavy bleeding. Went straight to hospital where I was observed for a few hours. Pain and bleeding calmed down and they put it down to "just clearing the remains out"
If it doesn't get better in a day or 2, or it gets worse with heavier bleeding, get some medical advice.
Good luck to you xx

Thanks for all your messages. I'm lucky really as I have one lovely 3yr old and this is helping a lot. It must be much much worse with a first pregnancy. I have been living abroad for 15yrs and it is great being able to get some direct advice from the UK too! As a lot of my friends are having second babies my daughter knew "Mummy maybe had a baby in her tummy" (better to wait to tell them)when I told her Mummy didn't have one anymore she asked me "Mummy where has your baby gone?" and said that next time she would tell it not to go away! If we try again I hope it listens to her!:-)

Ahh bless, good luck at least you know you can get pg and can carry a baby to term. Not much consolation, but you will be fine.

firstly hugs to you..had this happen nearly 2 yrs ago now. I found out at 15wk scan baby had died at 9wks. I had D+C about 2 wks later as it was over xmas time. I had a 14mth old at the time to. Positive news is exactly a year to the day of the D+CI gave birth to Dd who is 1 in dec and am also due another baby in january.

The d+C itself is rather painless as you are put under. I had to go in at 8am had op at 11.30 am ish and was home by 4pm. Just watch out for huge clots and funny smells but generally is painless quite surreal experience.
