Will it hurt?

I know this seems silly, but this is the thing that seems to be worrying me the most. After a scan today I was told I have a probable missed miscarriage. I might miscarry naturally, or if nothing has changed when I have another scan next week, I will have a D&C. I am currently 7 weeks.

Will it hurt? It just seems so scary.

So sorry to hear this fisil XXX

The D&C won't hurt, they will probably give you a general anaesthetic for it, or at the very least a local.

Hugs to you (())

I'm so sorry, fisil. Same with me, no real pain from miscarrying beyond the sort that you might get with a period, but the emotional pain more than makes up for it. Don't be scared, sweetheart.

Fisil, so sorry to hear this, not silly at all, completely understandable. I have had a d & c (after retained placenta)and it was under general anaesthetic.

Poor you, I am so sorry. I had a D & C and was given a general anaesthetic, with good pain medication afterwards. The baby stopped growing at 8 weeks, but I didn't find out until I was 12 weeks. They said it was too well implanted to miscarry naturally. All the staff were very kind as as helpful and sensitive as they could be.

Hugs to you.

Oh no, Fisil, I am so so sorry.
I have had 2 d&cs following missed miscarriages. They didnt hurt at all, I had a general anasthetic and was given strong painkillers after but I didnt even need to use them. Following the second one, I did have bad cramps a few days later and some more stuff came out. Sometimes the d&c doesnt remove all the womb lining so bleeding and cramping is quite common I think. As Tamum says, the emotional pain is harder. Big hugs Bunnyxx

Oh poor you fisil, deepest sympathy to you
Same thing happened to me exactly 4 years ago only. Had the D&C and no it did not hurt, but did bleed a lot, so plan to put your feet up for as long as you can after the event.
Tamum is right about the emotional pain being worse.
I'm sorry but I can't remember if you have kids already but if you are going to ttc again, the body sees the d&c as a period (IME) so you can start counting your cycles from that time. It only took me 5 cycles to conceive again. What I mean to say is that physically this operation should not present any problems to your fertility or cause you any pain.
HTH

Thank you everyone. I am feeling better now that it won't be physically painful. I already have emotional pain, so I know that hurts, and now I know it shouldn't physically hurt on top of that!

So sorry fisil.
Just want to reiterate what everyone else has said. Mine was done under general and I was offered but didn't need any pain killers.
You need lots of support afterwards, don't overdo things and take as much "me" time as you can.
Come back here whenever you need to. And don't worry if you seem to be coping okay and then find it terribly hard again. Its quite normal and if you find people don't get it, come and talk to us on here as so many of us can support you.

fisil, I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. Not silly at all, everything is valid. I can only echo what others have said - and that there won't be much pain. With my m/c they were like very heavy periods with stronger than usual cramps, and I had anasthetic (can't remember if local or general)for my d&c and didn't have anything except antibiotics afterwords. Waiting for it is heartbreaking.
Thinking of you at this hard time,
hana

Oh Fisil, so, so sorry to hear about this.

I've m/c twice & had a d&c once. Painwise it was ok but dh picked me up afterwards as I was considered unfit to drive even after a local. I seem to remember bleeding for a while, although it was pre-childbirth so might not have been long in comparison.

Hugs, Kx

Fisil, so sorry to hear this. Sending you a cyberhug. I had a m/c in first pg and it was quite painful actually, but it was much later and I had labour-type contractions. I just took painkillers (although it still hurt). I don't know what else to say. Take care.
