Why do some people have no sensitivity?

My best friend had a miscarrage 2 weeks ago and while she is doing fine, a friend of ours is pregnant too but is being so insensitive about the whole situation.
She went to my friend the day the miscarrage was confirmed to ask her to check her pregnancy test(WTF!!) and now she is just flaunting her pregnancy in my friends face!!
She keeps rubbing her belly and complaining about how hard pregnancy is etc and now her 6 year old dd is telling anyone who will listen that my friends baby is dead and her mummys isn't.
The problem I have is that the mother will not tell her off or explain to her why her words are innapropriate.
I want to smack this woman one for having absolutely no tact but my friend is afraid of consequences.

What do you think? What would you do?
Any advice/opinions welcome.

I would avoid the pregnant friedn as much as possible. She doesn't sound a very nice person. Maybe it's time to ditch the friendship

If it was me I would have a stiff word with her (at least I hope I would). Why would anyone be so nasty - it's mind-boggling.

I agree - what an insensitive cow.

I would say something to the 6 year old if she said that in front of me. If the mother isn't going to, I would gently explain what is going on and how the friend who has lost her baby will feel - and how to treat her loss with respect. 6 is old enough to understand this.

My friend has no backbone, she freely admits it and I feel it is my best-friend-duty to set this woman straight.
I know she will start asking my friend to look after her kids while she sleeps or pick them from school when she can't be bothered.

You should have words. It's unacceptable. It's obviously not her fault that the pregnancy has coincided but her selfishness and insensitivity is intolerable.

It doesn't even sound like insensitivity, it sounds deliberately cruel. How weird. You have to tell her - to be less confrontational, rather than saying "you are out of order" you can say "x is still very sensitive and easily upset, I think we need to be careful what we say" or similar?
