Should I send a card?

Found out today that my best mate's nephew has died over the weekend. Have been friends with my BF for 22 years and know the family well, its her brother's son. BUT there is a bit of a history with me and her brother and his wife doesn't like the fact that we were together at one point. I want the family to know I am thinking of them but don't want to rock the boat.

I think you should send a card, it doesnt matter about the past. Just say how sorry and sad you are.

Ditto, but think you should send it via your BF

Thing is DH can't handle the fact we were together either, don't want to upset him and Bf's brother's wife.

It is not the time for neurotic fears over former relationships. You just want to express your sadness and regret.

I know, I will send one via my BF. So sad :(
