In memory of our lovely Aillidh

At 11.25 last night, our beautiful, 9-year-old daughter died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, she went into respiratory failure after contracting human metapneumo virus following conditioning chemotherapy for stem cell transplant.

For many days, she lingered on a ventilator. But last night, she developed a pneumothorax and rapidly deteriorated.

She died within seconds of the ventilator being taken off.

I can't believe she's gone, or how broken her long body looked.

I think of you all the time Expat, your beautiful daughter fought so hard. It is just so sad. Xx

expatinscotland · 29/07/2012 02:06

She nearly made it. Her CRP was the lowest it had been since she was transplanted, 40.

The damage from the chemo was too great.

She suffered catastrophic lung damage and failure.

When she died, she was on the way to multiple organ system failure, her kidneys having packed in days before, her liver on the way.

Her sats had been tanked for days, though her lactic response was good.

Her heart beat for mere seconds after her vent was pulled. My ear was over her chest as it was done.

She was gone.

Expat, I can't even imagine how hard this is but I wanted you to know that your strength inspires me everyday, your family will keep going and keep growing and Aillidh is forever a part of that. Keep chatting to us on here - someone's always awake! Xx

McPhee · 29/07/2012 02:15

Your daughter was amazing expat xx

I can't imagine what you've all been through, but we can listen and love you all always xx

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/07/2012 06:44

Oh my love, it's just so unfair isn't it - to be so close & yet so far :( I think of you all everyday and still can't believe she didn't make it, Aillidh was such a little fighter wasn't she, she certainly gave it her all - and more. I wish I could have met her, she sounds like such a wonderful little girl, with such a lovely way about her. I want to scream & shout at the injustice of it - I can't imagine how you must all be feeling. Lots & lots of love & strength xxx

Lougle · 29/07/2012 07:00

crazynanna · 29/07/2012 22:33

I remember so well when you told us of the diagnosis, expat.

Cannot believe it was only 7 months and 25 days ago xx

charlieandlola · 29/07/2012 22:33

I wish there was something we could say or do that would bring her back to you, healthy, Expat. But we are mere mortals I am afraid and all we can do it stand with you.

Geranium3 · 29/07/2012 22:46

still thinking of you all, gosh i didn't realize that it was less than 8months ago that your wonderful Aillidh was 1st diagnosed with such a cruel illness. I hope you can find even a little comfort from Aillidh now being in heaven but it is so heartbreaking that she isn't where she should be....with her loving family

expatinscotland · 29/07/2012 22:50

It was 25 November 2011 she was diagnosed. Sad
