FIL died suddenly this summer & MIL hs decided to come to us for most of Xmas. I realise its going to be a sad time for her but I don't know how best to deal with it.

Both my parents are dead (long ago) so have moved on and can cope with things like Xmas. But am worried that I may be too robust for her.

I would really like some help on this.

Just be kind, and listen to her. You'll soon realise if she does, or doesn't, want to talk about the death of her husband.

It's a bit different when your parents die to when your partner dies, I feel. (I speak from my experience).

You sound like a kind person who'll be responsive to your MIL when she arrives, otherwise why would you have posted here? If you didn't care you wouldn't have posted Smile

If she's up to it I would ask before tge day how she would like fil remembered/mentioned on tge day if at all. Last Christmas was the first without my dad and I feel that we should have decided what/how we wanted to do it.

Thank you for your replies. I'm so sorry to hear that you are having to go through Christmas without your loved ones but thank you for your suggestions. Maybe I'm a bit robust about it all because I don't like to think about my parents.
