Why would I need to do a pregnancy test?

I had a scan two days after my miscarriage two weeks ago. The sonographer pointed out that there was still a lot of lining to come away (she likened it to a womb immediately before a period)and asked if I wanted a D&C, which I turned down. She advised that I do a pregnancy test two weeks later, I presumed to ensure that it was negative, indicating that all the tissue etc had come away. Does this sound plausible? Is it possible that pregnancy hormones would still be swilling around and give a positive result? I'm a little confused about the point of doing the test, and any insights would be appreciated. Btw, I'm still experiencing slight bleeding.

Hi Azure...I had a d&c 4 weeks ago, only bled for a week. I did a preg test 2&3 weeks after (kinda hoping that just mabey) and it was positive both times. The hormone didn't leave my body until 3 weeks. It was just a faint line but it was still positive. Now I have finally had my first period. Every body is diferent so mabey it might take longer for you where you didn't have a d&c.

Azure, that's exactly ehat heppened to me. At the scan, they said the m/c was complete but there was 1cm of lining left! She said to leave it and the next P would be heavy. It was and there was alotof old blood too, but I'm so glad I left it. I would be dubious if there were 'products' but not lining. It was so thick, even I could see it. Also it took 8 weeks for my HCG to go to 0. They did my bloods at 8 weeks after cos I still felt pg. I had 20hcg. It went to 0 thought the following week. A doctor once said to me when I thought I was m/c, do a pg test - how stupid, of course I would still have the hormones. I sometimes feel i know more than some of these doctors! Good luck. Hang in there.xxxxxx

I did the preg test yesterday (3 weeks after m/c) and it showed a faint positive. Don't know why I bothered, given the info that hormones can hang around for a long time. Still having light bleeding - more glutinous now than before (sorry). At what stage is it worth going back to GP? What indicates an infection? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi axure, it's frustrating feeling pg still isn't it. They half apparantly every 24-36 hours. I would see the Doctor now if you are still bleeding after 3 weeks. Did the scan confirm it was complete? Sometimes a tiny piece of placenta can remain hidden and make you bleed longer, or could be infection. Maybe ask for a swab to be taken to put your mind at rest. Infection ususally comes with a temp, but not always. You feel a burning inside your womb. Bleeding for me went on and on. Firstly there were bits left, so had a D and C, then infection. You just want your body back don't you. You will get it, your womb has had a big thing happen and will be finding it's reset button to start the cycle off again. Try not to worry too much. I only know now that I wasn't a freak and that not all m/c are so cut and dry.
