Anyone else facing first Mother's Day without their Mom

My Mom died on 13 February less than two months after a cancer diagnosis and whilst the kids are really looking forward to giving me their gifts for mother's day, I am really struggling and don't want to make it miserable for them. My DH has just gone to visit his Mom but I could not go. Am doing a swim for Marie Curie next week and going to practice instead. Feel awful for him but with so much in the shops am actually dreading it tomorrow. Anyone else out there feeling the same so that we can give each other moral support? How are you coping?

My mums died 4 years ago and I do think of her a lot on Mothers' Day and wish we'd had a chance to have one together as mums. I think your swimming practice sounds great. Why don't you do that - get some exercise endorphines going and know it's for your mum. Is there a grave or place you can go to feel close to her? It's very tough but your children want to celebrate you too - I bet your mum would have liked to think of that.

THE BRIDGE

The way I walk I see my mother walking,
The feet secure and firm upon the ground.
The way I talk I hear my daughter talking
And hear my mother's echo in the sound.
The way she thought I find myself now thinking,
The generations linking
In a firm continuum of mind.
The bridge of immortality I'm walking,
The voice before me echoing behind.

Be kind to yourself. Mothers' days will get easier. I hope you have some smiles and remember that having your children places you in a long history of mothers who have all felt as you do - in joy and sorrow.

Yes, me too. Mum died 11th March. Absolutely dreading it. Was in tears today in Asda too. Strangely I don't rememberthe 1st father's Day being as bad as this.
