6 yr old mood swings

I have a 6 yr old boy who can flip from one mood to another over the slightest thing. Sometimes he behaves like he really doesn't like me - this can be set off by absolutely nothing. This morning I drove to work in tears after taking him to school and him running off from me without even looking back. Is this normal ?

It can be normal, but I don't think it's very nice or particularly acceptable for a child to be offhand for no reason whatsoever. However, people are feeling in the morning (adult or child), there's no call for bad manners. Mood and diet are often linked... poor nutrition or low-blood sugars are common causes. Fatigue can make people act out of character. Make sure he's getting plenty of rest therefore, a good diet and consider adding a daily multivitamin to the mix. Plus, remind him that he's part of a family and that, if he's feeling grumpy, there's no call to take it out on everyone else.
