Would I be mad to try and give a 10m old a dummy?

He is getting worse. He cries, alot. He follows me around the house clawing at me to be picked up (and then often carries on crying). He is hardly ever happy and it is really getting me down. I feel like I am clutching at staws but I have two other children (6 and 4) who get nothing from me as I am constantly trying to please the baby.

If it helps why not - I tried to give DS one when he was 7 months as I was flying out to Aust as he didn't have anyway to self soothe - but was just not going to take it. Otherwise could you try giving him a blanket/toy every time he is upset and he might get attached to it and it might help to self soothe. My DD who is 10 months loves a little crocheted blanket that she curl fingers in and she sucks her thumb at the same time (although you may not want that!!).

I wouldn't because if you do and he does take to it then you will be on here in a year's time deaperately asking for advice as to how to ditch the dummy!

Also, at 10 months it is unlikely he will find any comfort in it. His need to suck for comfort will have subsided and though he may be interested in trying to chew/ suck/ throw/ play with it, I would have thought it would become boring to him after a short while and you'll be back to square one.

My ds was a terribly hard to please little boy, he never wanted a dummy and by 11 weeks I had given up trying with him and now he is nearly 3 I am so glad he never had one. So many of my friends have 3/4 yr olds who are permenantly plugged up which I don't think is good for them.

I'd try to carry on as best you can. It does get better. My ds is fab now!
