What age do babies 'ask' for cuddles?

Just wondering really - DS is 8mo and his main aim in life seems to be getting away from me - to crawl off, or try to stand up, or climb over me to get to a toy etc.

He doesn't seem bothered by cuddles and has never been 'clingy', even if upset.

Normal?

Normal. Some do and some don't.

DD never wanted cuddles as a baby, DS (9 months) loves a good snuggle, sloppy kisses and all

I agree with lionstar, some do some don't, i work in a nursery so have seen lots of cuddly and un cuddly children, reminds me we had a delightfully wild child we had him from 3 months to school age, and when he was a toddler up we use to give him cuddles as punishments (as a joke) it was the only time we could keep him still

DS didn't really at 8 months. More interested in exploring. He was about 13 or 14 months before he'd come and give me a cuddle or a kiss, but now he's really affectionate

DD is 8 months and some times I am the best thing since sliced bread, sometimes she tries her best to wriggle away. I'm taking it all as normal...

Also, she has HUGE smiles for daddy and grandad and me... NOTHING. Even if she hasn't seen me for a while.

Sounds normal to me.

DD was never really interested in cuddles as a baby, she never wanted to sit still for long enough, just to explore. The only time she did was when she was ill, then she would be happy to snuggle up with us all day. It was quite nice in a way when she was ill because it showed us how comforting she found us, she just didn't need it when she was well.

She's now 23 months and gives plenty of cuddles and kisses, but she has to be in the mood for it- if I ask when she's in the middle of something the answer will be 'no'!
