day time sleep in 5 week old?

Hiya

Still having bother with my 5 week old! Just checking something out with you all. She HATES sleeping in her cot/basket during the day (is ok on a night though, and we're putting a bed time routine in place).

I've tried for 3 days to get her to nap in her basket, but she's having none of it. She's perfectly happy and sleeps for good periods (for the most part) in her bouncer, pram, sling or car seat though.

Obviously, she won;t be able to have naps in her bouncer forever as she'll be too big. So ladies, is it normal that she's napping like this and when is a good time to get her moved into her cot/basket for naps?

I'm dreading having a child that refuses to sleep throughout the day all because I didn't encourage good sleep habits at the right time.

Thanks

Go with what she wants, 5 weeks is so young.

My ds never ever took a nap in his cot or moses basket yet slept through at 9 weeks in his cot. It never effected his night sleep at all. I used to gently bounce him to sleep in his bouncer chair til he was about 5 months. Then he started to want to nap next to me on the sofa. Not very practical maybe but I loved it and it never bothered me in the slightest.

He's 3 now and still sleeps perfectly at night and goes to bed fine for a nap when he needs one.

Hi I agree with the above.
My DS has daytime naps wherever,bouncer/pram etc.As long as he does nap I don't mind as he sleeps ok in the basket/cot at night.
When your baby can settle themselves in a few months it'll be easier to put them to sleep in their cot.

Yep - leave her where she likes to sleep. We didn't have a moses basket, just the bouncer and dd slept in it during the day until she was about four months old. Either that or in the sling. Let her do what she likes! Try her cot again periodically - maybe once a week - she'll sleep in it one day.

Important thing is that she naps - not where at this age! Just keep trying every now and then. One day it'll work - but not all the time

Also where are you putting the basket? It is in the bedroom? Have you tried putting the basket somewhere a bit busier - I used to put DS in his basket in the living room while I pottered around. He'd sleep for 2 hours at times, especially if the window was open.
