ds 2.7 constantly throwing - need tips

I need some tips to stop my ds throwing everything. He has always been a strong willed boy and I have tried various things to stop or at least reduce the throwing incidents. nothing has worked, and i am sick of my own voice. i have tried ignoring him too.

I think he has increased his throwing since dd2 arrived 7 weeks ago and his need for attention. dh spends a lot of 1-1 time with him and I do during the day when I can.

He is a boisterous, energetic boy who is constantly on the go; if I turn my back for a second he can be throwing stones from the garden into the road or similar.

Is it a phase (a long one?)

What can I do to stop / reduce this?

If he's boisterous and energetic then he probably needs a few more physical activities to keep him from getting bored and to burn off the energy. Something he can legitimately throw, kick, bash or whatever rather than resorting to stones might be an idea. If you have access to a playgroup/nursery where he can charge about with other kids, that's another channel for excess energy.

Reward & encourage calm behaviour with activites you can do together that require a little patience and concentration. Puzzles, making models with bricks, reading books etc.... If he cottons on that he gets more of your attention when he's doing something calm and constructive, he'll want to do it more often.

If he still throws stones then you dish out whatever punishment you think fit... time out, toys withheld etc. Don't waste your time shouting. Good luck

thanks chil for the input. Shouting is definately a waste of my energy. I will try to re-structure my day and reward more.

for some reason i posted this thread twice.
