Learning to crawl - how long does it take?

I know this is a 'how long's a piece of string' type question, but ds (8mo) has been nearly crawling for weeks now and I just wondered how long it might take before he gets it?

It's obviously frustrating him and he's also a bit unsettled at night, perhaps with the practice/development of new skills?

He can get up onto his hands and knees and sometimes goes backwards a bit. He can roll well both ways, and he (this morning) managed to pull up to sitting from lying down.

Any ideas?

As you say how long is a piece of string. I found with my DDs they didn't even attempt it one day and zoomed around the room the next.
With DS he tried for ages looked like he was revving up but didn't go anywhere for ages.

My DS was the same. Kept thinking for weeks "thats it, we're nearly there!" as he was so frustrated. Unfortunately he didn't crawl. Then it took him until he was 15 months before he walked .

Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear and I hope he crawls for you soon!!

My DD is has been trying to crawl for weeks too, she is nearly 9 months. All of a sudden she has lost interest in crawling and is doing this weird downward dog move, think she is trying to stand. She is finding it all very frustrating as am I! Saying that whilst I am mumsnetting doing my revision, she has managed to move over to the leapfrog and pull herself up. They are funny little things aren't they!

Notnearly, mines doing that down dog thing as well, I think he is trying to go straight to walking too! He doesn't pull himself up yet though, so it'll be a while before he manages that, I think!

7 1/2 mo DD is doing both - downward dog, up on hands and knees and moving backwards - keep thinking this is it but no crawling as yet. hasn't shown much interest in pulling herself up yet, i think she's not strong enough to start crawling, she gets too tired.
