Nightmare toenails

My ds is 14 months and has inherited really soft nails from my side of the family

They are a nightmare to cut and his big toes are horrendous and just split all over the place.

Anyone got any suggestions to help me???

His nails also curl under like mine do!!

Sounds very familiar. No suggestions, but ds is exactly the same esp big toes, and I'd like to know the answer too please!

only thing I can suggest is that you keep them short & try to make sure he wears socks & shoes. Does it bother him?

My ds's toe nails are like this too. it actually doesn't seem to bother him, even though sometimes they look like they should hurt. I get concerned about it too.

Older ds's seem to be toughening up with age, so maybe your ds's will too?

Don't know any remedies to actually make them tougher though, sorry.

Do you cut them after his bath? His nails will be softer and easier to cut then. My children are 4 and 6 now and its no longer a problem - but when they were that age they both hated me cutting their nails and used to cry and struggle. I used to wrap them up in a towel after bath sit them on my knee and try to do it as quickly as poss whilst saying this little piggy went to market. I'm not sure what to suggest except make sure you have good sharp nail scissors, those baby ones were always completely useless. His nails will get better as he gets older.

mine were all soft when younger too.

Baba he didn't inherit soft nails, it's cause he is a gemini

Baba · 16/07/2003 10:12

This gemini thing - it looks like he's a totally typical one really doesn't it - from his toenails to his split personality!!! ha ha jasper.

My second toe is longer than my big toe - is that a Taurus thing then???

Apparently it is a sign of being totally sexy and Marilyn Monroe and Madonna has it!!

Baba my husband claims the toe length thing means you are very athletic- he has it too, but then he's a grumpy old fart capricorn so what does he know?

Baba · 16/07/2003 10:50

i haven't heard that one before - again, being a Taurus, one word I would NOT use to describe me was athletic.

We have a gym (v.small!) in the garage and I look at it every day, vowing to start exercising and never do!!! Much prefer to sit with a glass of wine watching corrie!!

Think I will stick to the sexy explanation - sounds far more glamorous!

My second toe is longer too, I'm a capricorn, definitely not athletic. I thought it was a sign of being artistic?
