just reading on few threads, and im beginning to feel a little paranoid, my DD is 8 months old, she isnt crawling yet, she can sit herself a little by only leaning slightly forward, if she leans back she falls over, she can stand for a few seconds but when i encourage her to move her feet to walk she puts one foot right infront of the other and gets all twisted!
she isnt really uttering much yet, and just isnt very sturdy, shes quite a chunky monkey, do you think that could be while shes finding it difficult?
and she dosnt really play with any toys or take interest in them she just wants to eat them.does all this sound normal for an 8 month old? i have two friends with babys at 7 months and they are doign a lot more than DD xx

She'll get there, and soon you'll be chasing her all over the house

DS is 1 year old and is not crawling nor does he have any interest in walking. I put him on his tummy and he looks at me like I'm crazy, then turns on his back rather than try to crawl. Sigh.

DD was the same. Now she is almost 5 and a monkey who climbs everywhere,

Try not to worry. At 8 months she is a tiny baby. She doesn't have to crawl and you certainly can't expect her to walk.

Al1son · 15/06/2010 21:20

I didn't read anything I'd worry about there.

If she is a bit heavy her legs may not be able to support her weight but they don't need to do that yet. Most babies do slim down a lot when they start to move around so I wouldn't worry.

My DD1 didn't even try to crawl and then walked very early so don't worry about what she's not doing.

TO be honest I'd make the most of having a static baby. Life gets a whole lot more complicated when they can move.

Eating toys is exploring the shape and texture which is exactly what she's supposed to be doing.

Babies can vary so much within the range of perfectly normal it really is best not to try to compare them. I know that's easier said than done but your baby sounds fine.

glasgowmandy · 15/06/2010 21:21

ok thankyou, i think its a lot of what the HV's ask you aswell i had a recent visit and she asked me.. is she crawling? is she pulling herself up from the sofa to stand.. is she saying mama or dadda? can she point to things etc etc i felt terrible saying.. um no no and no!
i cant put her on her tummy i try, i somtimes put a rolled up towel underneath her upper body to try to encourage her to use her legs but she goes nuts too!
i just compare her sometimes to what everyones elses babys are doing at this stage or earlier!

I don't think Hv's should ask if children do things until they are of an age where not being able to do it would be cause for concern. It just makes mums paranoid.

Just enjoy you're gorgeous little girl and stop worrying.

glasgowmandy · 15/06/2010 21:53

i agree, im always told all kids are different, but your right they make you paranoid about everything! glad they dont visit anymore! last visit she also commented on my laminate flooring not being suitable for baba! i told her well it is for me when im cleaning up sick and mess all day, and my DD likes to go about in he walker, we have a throw down rug for when shes sitting down. uck one thing after another sorry.
just gave myself a slap

Sounds normal. DS is 8.5 mo and learned to crawl yesterday. Your HV sounds like a PITA. She'd hate our wooden floors.

glasgowmandy · 15/06/2010 22:07

aww thats good, maybe she'll just start doing it all of a sudden, aw dont get me started on her, ive hated her from the start! we got a row recently aswell, as my partner smokes, never in the house! but my DD had a chest infection.. which im putting down to her catching from her 2 year old cousin who was coughing like mad, anyways she told me she could smell the smoke int he close outside the house and it could play a part in her infection and really looked down on me on it! i was horrified!
she has said some really shitty things to me and made me question myself as a mother sometimes, although i consider myself to be a great mummy! i do the best i can!
totally gone off the subject now lol, but she gets my hackles right up!
