2 yo scribbles out eyes on all pictures

People have been commenting on how every picture they draw, DS scribbles out the eyes, sometimes saying "He's crying" and usually tracks down the biggest fattest black crayon to scribble the eyes out with. He will try to colour in other pictures like cars, boats etc but any pictures with eyes have been scribbled out.

I knew he would do this but now that other people are commenting I thought I would ask about it on here.

He also does this thing sometimes where he will do really long, flickery blinks like he is stuggling to open his eyes and then it passes.

Just wondering if this is just a phase. He can do eye contact no problem but doesn't like strangers looking at him - men in particlar. I just thought this was him being a toddler...

Any advise would be greatly appreciated thanks

I would say at a guess that it is just him being a toddler! My ds is 2.10 and actually has little interest with drawing etc but he doesn't like eyes on pictures looking at him. Just today we were looking at pictures of birds and he just kept saying 'mummy, those have got strange eyes, look, they are looking at me' and he was really unsettled by it.

He also hates strangers looking at him at first (not always strangers, sometimes just people other than me and dh!) and will often hide behind my legs and re-emerge when he feels a bit more confident.

Strangely he does the fluttery blinky thing too! He laughs when he does it though and I assume he is just doing it because he can or maybe because he's tired! Does your ds know he's doing it? Can he stop doing it if you ask him part way through or is it unconrolable?

Nothing you have written really makes me think he is anything other than 'normal', unles my ds is odd too which he could be!

My sister does this with her eyes, always has. She's SN and when she was about 12, we found out that when her eyes are flickering, it's like a mini-seizure.

Not trying to worry you, just sharing experience.

DD (2.5) has recently developed a bit of stutter when she's tired. She does the long, flickery blinks when she's trying to get a word out - I wonder if it's just toddler brain going into overload?
