Bottom clenching disaster!

DD (14mo) has terrible trouble pooing. It is always nice and soft but she screams the house down when she does one. We think it's because she clenches her buttocks really tight and her whole body goes stiff as a board. Can't imagine trying to poo like that! Any suggestions to help her relax? We have tried her on a potty, she hates it.

My daughter (2) does exactly the same thing for months I thought she had bad constipation but then I started noticing that she was clenching her buttocks and arching her back, totally stiff making it impossible to get a poo out.

I used to hold her over the toilet with her knees bent into her chest and the poo would just fly out. She'd be much happier once it was out.

it got better when she started using the potty and she'd just sit and it would come easily, however we're just back from a holiday where she did not feel comfortable using the toilet for pooing so she started pooing in her pants!!

Getting her to use the potty was the only way she got over this. This took time and I used a method called Elimination Communication. I started trying it an hour every other day at around 14/15mths and she was out of nappies by 20mths and dry at night before her 2nd birthday. We're back to square one on the poo front now though. She just really hates doing a poo.

Sorry not much in the way of advice on how to help her relax but maybe it might help knowing you're not alone on this problem.
