Hyper 2.10 yr old.......is he completely at odds with your toddler?

I am trying to work out if my little boy is on the verge of having a problem. I have always had ADHD at the back of my mind, but may be it's just that he is on the hyper side.

At TIMES he runs around and really bounces of the walls, disruptive and slightly mean to other children around him. I can see other children just backing off as they are not sure how to handle him. However, he is not like this all the time - and can play nicely, does focus on his toys sometimes and loves stories (will sit through loads if you carry on reading!). He follows instructions quite well too.

But phew he can by hyper! I am trying to cut all sugar out of his diet and limit colours/preservatives.

Any thoughts? The thing is when he is hyper trying to get him to calm down is impossible.

I don't think I'd want to be thinking ADHD at 2.9, tbh. He's still really little

And the 'good' behaviour you describe sounds fab, so I think he's being quite typical-toddlerish, really

He sounds exactly like my DS1 to be honest. He is 3.10 now and still can get very hyper and I too have seen other children back off.

However, he has always loved stories and would sit still for hours just listening.

He has always been like this and it has never occured to me that he has ADHD - he is just a lively little boy who tires us out

DS2, otoh, is nowhere near as active so you would think he would love sitting still having stories read to him....but he hates it I just about can read a (very) short story to him before bed but not at any other time!!

I've got a 2.7yo DS who also fits the description! I am worried about him being hyper; sometimes he just runs about like crazy and won't listen and won't come when called and climbs everything he can and jumps off things and pinches other kid's toys and tantrums when he can't have his own way...

But if I can get him near books he'll have me read for HOURS.

I know ADD and ADHD kids have the ability to hyperfocus on things they really are interested in, but I think it's fairly consistently obsessive in their case; sometimes my DS only wants to play with his trains, sometimes it's the wheelbarrow and sometimes he won't leave me alone when I'm trying to cook! So I hope he's just being normal and pushing boundaries (if irritating as heck sometimes). He also won't go to sleep easily - wants to read more or play more or talk more. Then doesn't want to get up in a morning!

I think he's just got an active brain as well as body, and he wants to learn everything NOW. Pity the word NO isn't one of those things!!

Any help gratefully received...
