Speech development - or not - growling and screeching in 7 mo old

Hi

My 7 mo DD is not making any noises other than growling and screeching. The growling was pretty much non-stop for six weeks and now she's screeching as well.

She's a happy little girl and I think she is making these noises as they get her lots of attention. Most people laugh when they hear her screeching away and she makes the noises when she's excited or pleased.

I might be being a bit paranoid but she's not making any other baba or dada noises at all, not helped when other babies around sound like they're chatting away and DD is screeching at the top of her voice.

I'm taking her to see HV later this week but wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this with their DC?

Thanks

Sounds perfectly normal to me. She's learnt to make these noises and is practising them now. That's good. She'll soon move on to something else once she discovers a new sound. My DD (11 months) has gone from growling to screeching to babbling and finally around 8-9 months we got a mama and a dada!

When my daughter did this, we called it "experimenting with pitch and volume", which made me feel lots better!

Thanks - it's nice to know that other children do it too. I thought it was funny at first but wearing a bit thin now, especially as I was having visions of her growling at 15 - although she will probably have regressed to a grunt by that stage.

Mine was obsessed with making a sound that can only be described as 'dying pterodactyl'. It went on for a good couple of months. Now he's 9 months he has just about given it up and is ba ba-ing away.
